The Society of Professional Journalists and the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication again teamed up for Building a Better Journalist Oct. 25, 2008. We were pleased to host Steve Engelberg - managing editor of the non-profit, investigative newsroom ProPublica - as the featured speaker. We also offered a variety of training sessions, including traditional writing courses and others geared toward emerging technologies in the field.
This very affordable conference was subsidized by membership dues and through our annual contest, our biggest fundraiser. SPJ also awarded up to five $100 scholarships to take the sting out of traveling to Eugene for the conference.
