The Smoking Gun website recently accused the Los Angeles Times of being duped by forged documents. From a reporter’s perspective the red flags in the TSG takedown, most of them based on knowing how to read a standard FBI investigative form, are chilling.
Top investigative journalism trainer Don Ray, a speaker at this weekend’s Portland training event, “Brave New Media World,” has long taught how to analyze or, as he puts it, “interview” a document. He’ll be covering that Saturday in his talk “The Investigative Mindset,” and will make you read documents in a whole new way.
