Church records still secret · 18 March 08

Though the Archdiocese of Portland made good on a promise to release some records about abusive priests back in June, further releases seem to have halted.
Salem-News.com is reporting the archdiocese continues to fight to keep the remaining records under wraps, despite their recent bankruptcy and a previous commitment to slowly release the documents. According to a Feb. 12 story in the Oregonian, both the church and abuse victims are now negotiating the release of documents in mediation. One lawyer interviewed for the story said he backed out of the negotiations after the archdiocese sought to reveal the names of his clients – one adult and seven child abuse victims.
