SPJ contest details for Oregon and Southwest Washington
There are two contests administered by SPJ chapters in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Non-daily publications and local web publications can enter in the Oregon SPJ non-daily contest, administered by the local Oregon/SW Washington chapter. Entries are submitted online this year and are due Feb. 15, 2013. For full rules and details, click here. To upload your entries now, fill out the web form below.
Feb. 15 UPDATE — Sorry folks, we couldn’t get the file upload feature of the web form to work. Please e-mail zip files to my gmail account: csgaston@gmail.com. You can also send them to me via Dropbox or by sharing them on Google Docs. Contact me if you have any questions. Additionally, credit card payments aren’t working due to a separate problem, so please send us a check. The web form is still useful for calculating the amount due. I’ll be sending out confirmation e-mails this weekend as I collect the entries together. Don’t worry about disqualifications — we’re going to be pretty liberal this year since we’ve had so many technical issues.
Jan. 10 UPDATE: We’ve discovered some bugs in the online form. Zip files seem to be taking multiple attempts in order to upload and the form won’t let you select 0 entries. We’re working fix both issues and will post an update. If you experience trouble, contact Christian Gaston and Stover Harger.
Jan. 13 UPDATE: The bug regarding selecting 0 entries is fixed. It looks like zip files will upload, but it may take multiple tries. We’re not sure why that is, but if you’re having trouble let us know.
Feb. 4 UPDATE: The file upload on the form below is still causing us some trouble. If you can’t upload your files here, there are two options: Dropbox and Google Docs. Both require you to sign up for their free services. If you have a Google account, you can upload the zip file to your Google Docs space and share it with Christian Gaston, csgaston@gmail.com. Contact us for details if you run into trouble.
Feb. 7 UPDATE: We’ve extended the deadline to Feb. 15. We’re still having trouble with our online credit card processor. Hopefully we’ll have it fixed in the next few days. Until then, you can still send your entries electronically and send a check to the Willamette Week address.
Daily newspapers, broadcast outlets and some qualifying non-dailies (magazines, alt-weeklies) can enter the Region Ten SPJ contest, administered by the five-state SPJ chapter that covers Alaska, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana. Non-daily newspapers cannot enter this contest. Full details about that process are online here.
